We undertake professional noise surveys and acoustic reports to meet Local Authority requirements and for a whole variety of other situations. Our detailed noise surveys are accurately undertaken in order to obtain accurate readings which we display in our reports. Our acoustic reports can offer mitigation advice to help your project comply with Council planning requirements.

Our manual noise survey includes a visit to the site, where we undertake noise measurements using UKAS calibrated sound level meters of a specific noise source. This can be anything ranging from a railway to a fixed plant mechanical extraction fan unit installation or any other type of activity (e.g. live music, pubs, churches). Our approach enables a controlled and accurate acoustic depiction of the situation and helps determine whether preventative measures are required. Our Reports clearly evidence the sound levels experienced, compare these to British, PPG24 and World Health Organisation standards to determine whether the sound levels experienced are acceptable. When they are not, we can recommend building materials or sound attenuation methods in order to ensure compliance. Our consultants can liaise with the Council Planning Officers and Environmental Health Officers to ascertain their exact requirements, to enable our reports to satisfy their requirements.

PPG24:1994 “Planning Policy Guidance – Planning and Noise
Used to establish whether a site is suitable for residential development, Abode Acoustics can undertake an on-site noise assessment to determine the noise levels affecting the proposed development during the day and night. This will then determine whether mitigation is required or not.

BS8233:1999 “Sound Insulation and Noise Reduction in Buildings”
Once a site has been classified as being suitable for development, the Local Authority should have set internal and external noise levels and will need to be satisfied that these shall not be exceeded. We use BS8233:1999 to undertake the required calculations to determine the mitigation necessary. This is normally related to the facade treatment such as glazing and ventilation specifications.
